Holi in Braj: what to expect

Braj celebrates Holi over many days, from Barsana's Lathmar Holi to the temple celebrations of Vrindavan.

In Braj, Holi is not a single day. The celebrations build over the days before Holi itself, moving between towns, and each has its own character.

The main celebrations

The exact dates follow the Hindu calendar and change every year. We publish them in our festival calendar once they are confirmed.

Crowds

Holi week is the busiest time of the year in Braj. Lanes and temples can become very crowded, and some areas are closed to vehicles. Book your stay early and plan to walk.

What to wear and carry

Is it right for everyone?

The energy is wonderful, but the busiest celebrations can be overwhelming for young children and elders. Many families enjoy watching from a quieter spot, or visit a day or two before the main crowds.

If you would like a guide who knows how the crowds move, see our Holi package or ask us.
